The Ontario Legislature Internship Program is a yearly competition open to recent university graduates who are interested in the legislative process. The principal purpose of the program is to provide Members of the Legislative Assembly with extra staff assistance, and at the same time, provides interns with practical experience in day-to-day work of the legislature. Interns work with government MPP, and an opposition MPP. Intern duties may involve writing speeches, assisting with constituency work, and preparing MPP’s for question period. The academic component of the internship involves the intern writing a paper on an aspect of the legislative process. Upon satisfactory completion of the paper, interns receive an additional $1,000. This internship program is open to graduates of Canadian universities who have an interest in the legislative process. Application forms are available online. |
