Pacific Peoples’ Partnership’s Indigenous Peoples Abroad Programme is now in its seventh year of offering young Canadians their first international work experience while contributing to the community development aspirations of peoples of the South Pacific. IPAP is funded by Foreign Affairs Canada (FCA) through their Young Professionals International Programme (YPI). Over the past seven years, Pacific Peoples’ Partnership (PPP) has sent close to 70 First Nations and Métis youth leaders on six-month internships in countries throughout the South Pacific. With the support of FCA and PPP’s generous donors, IPAP has provided a rare opportunity to engage in international work experience with a community development focus. Many of these participants have been placed in areas and organizations with which PPP has had long-standing relationships. Indeed, the project grows out of more than two decades of experience working with indigenous peoples and organizations in the region. |
